CASES Outreach Poster Competition Celebrates Winners
25th June 2026

CASES is pleased to announce that Harvey Chester, a pupil from LEAF Studio School and Sixth Form in Bournemouth has won its national School and College poster competition which is co-delivered by its Outreach Hubs at 36 HE Institutions across the UK.
Solent University in Southampton is an 'Outreach Hub' of the Chartered Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (CASES) and Harvey attended its outreach day during the academic year where school pupils are encouraged to design a sports science poster. CASES Outreach Hubs are set up to engage school pupils who are studying sport and exercise science related subjects, through activities including outreach days and an annual poster competition.
Harvey, along with pupils from schools and colleges across the region, attended the day and learned about supporting athletes. Pupils then designed a poster summarising their learning on any of the topics. Harvey was the winner put forward to CASES national judging panel from the Solent University Outreach Hub.
Prof. John Dickinson PhD, FCASES, CASES Accredited Applied Sport Scientist, is Chair of the CASES Outreach Panel. John said:
“This is the third year we have run the CASES School and College Poster Competition. This year we have seen further expansion with 36 CASES Outreach Hubs engaging with schools and colleges across the UK.
“Students aged between 14- and 19-years studying sport-related subjects visited a CASES Outreach Hub to take part in practical workshops to find out about CASES, and how sport and exercise science research is helping improve health and sport performance. Following the visit, students were invited to create an information poster based on one of the workshops they engaged with on the day.
“We had a significant number of high-quality posters submitted. We are delighted with the winning poster that Harvey submitted to the CASES School and College Poster Competition. The judges were particularly impressed with the depth of understanding demonstrated and the clear application of scientific principles to performance.”
By winning the overall UK-wide competition, Harvey has the opportunity for his school to receive a prize from CASES to support Sport and Exercise Sciences. Last year’s winner used the prize money towards a visit from Olympian Eilish McColgan to inspire future athletes and sports and exercise scientists. Harvey has chosen to use the prize money to invest in sport science equipment for LEAF Studio, including recovery compression machines and speed gates, allowing fellow students to benefit from enhanced training and recovery resources.
LEAF Studio, where Harvey studies, is a TASS Dual Career Accredited Site supporting young athletes aged 13–18 in balancing education alongside elite sport. Harvey is also an international powerlifter, having won bronze at the Commonwealth Championships last year, and is a TASS athlete at LEAF Sixth Form. Alongside competing at an elite level, Harvey has studied five A levels, a significant achievement demonstrating his commitment both academically and athletically.

Harvey said:
“As someone who competes at the top level of powerlifting and sporting competitions, I understand the importance of situational factors such as sleep in relation to performance. When having the opportunity to explore this interest first-hand, it enabled me to discover its complexity, peaking my curiosity within my research and amplifying my ambition to pursue other areas of research that interest me.
“In the future, as I move to Loughborough University, I will be able to further study this area with access to technology where I can continue my research and push the limits of sport-related psychological research.”
Runners-up
This year, judges also selected two sets of runner up. These were awarded to joint poster submissions from students at Halesowen College and Poole Grammar School via CASES Outreach Hubs at Wolverhampton University and Bournemouth University. Both schools receive prize money to invest in initiatives or equipment that can inspire and support sport and exercise science activities at the schools.
Students Brooke Hill and Martha Sidaway from Halesowen College were named runners-up after taking part in an Outreach Hub day at the University of Wolverhampton.
Jim Clements, Curriculum and Employer Relations Lead for Sport, said, “The CASES Outreach Day at the University of Wolverhampton was a fantastic experience for our students. The specialist workshops introduced them to current methods in sports science and the poster competition rounded the day off nicely, allowing the students to illustrate what they had learned.”

Additional runners-up were Ethan and Eric from Poole Grammar School, who participated in an Outreach Hub day at Bournemouth University and submitted an excellent poster on the science of sports drinks.
CASES is currently open to receive Expressions of Interest for institutions who would like to become an Outreach Hub and work with CASES to engage pupils aged 14–19 studying sport and exercise science-based subjects.
The deadline for Expressions of Interest is Tuesday 30 June 2026
