Speakers announced for BIG26
6th November 2026

Researchers, practitioners, students and industry professionals are encouraged to secure their place at BIG26, the annual event of the CASES Division of Biomechanics and Motor Behaviour, taking place on Friday 4 December 2026 at Abertay University in Dundee.
BIG remains the UK's only national forum dedicated to exploring the latest developments in sport and exercise biomechanics, bringing together leading academics, applied practitioners and emerging researchers for a day of knowledge exchange, debate and networking.
Keynote speakers
The organising committee is delighted to announce this year's keynote speakers.
Bas Van Hooren, PhD, Assistant Professor at Maastricht University, sport science consultant and Dutch national half-marathon champion, will deliver a keynote presentation titled "Quantifying loading and reducing running injuries using wearable sensors". His session will explore the opportunities and challenges of using wearable technology, machine learning and musculoskeletal modelling to better understand tissue loading and reduce injury risk in real-world settings.
Dr Steffi Colyer will deliver her talk titled, “The Markerless Revolution? Principles, Progress and Pitfalls”. This will introduce the principles behind markerless motion capture and showcase the rapid progress that has been made in sports biomechanics. Dr Colyer is a Senior Lecturer in Biomechanics at the University of Bath. In her research, Steffi analyses the motion and forces produced by athletes to try to unpick the biomechanical factors underlying the most elite performances and how these can be improved.
Dr Carina Price will present “Translating biomechanics into footwear: from real-world research to real-world impact”. This presentation will explore how real-world biomechanics research has been translated into footwear design, development and selection across a range of wearers.
Dr Price is an Associate Professor and Theme Lead for Foot Health and Footwear Research at the University of Salford. A biomechanist by background now specialising in foot and footwear research, she has worked at the intersection of biomechanics, clinical evidence and product innovation since 2009.
Delegates can also look forward to a packed programme featuring oral and poster presentations, the popular BIG Debate, a roundtable panel discussion, and an exhibition showcasing the latest biomechanics technologies, including motion analysis systems, wearable sensors and testing equipment.
The event is being hosted by Abertay University, whose Department of Health, Sport and Wellbeing has strong links with industry and applied practice, making it an ideal setting for this year's gathering of the biomechanics community.
Submit your research
There is still time for researchers and students to contribute to the scientific programme. Abstract submission remains open for both oral and poster presentations, with a deadline of Monday 16 November at 23:59. Submissions are welcomed from across the breadth of biomechanics, including sport, exercise, clinical and theoretical applications.
Support
The Division would like to thank the sponsors and exhibitors who have already committed their support to BIG26, including Qualisys, Gait and Motion Technology, Theia, Delsys Europe, Tracksys Ltd and VALD Performance.
Both Abertay University and Dundee City Region Convention Bureau are providing advice and guidance on visiting and staying in the city, for which CASES extends its thanks.
Registration
Registration is open until 26 November, with FREE attendance available to CASES members. Non-member rates start at just £10 plus VAT for students.
For those looking to maximise their visit, a small number of optional pre-event workshop opportunities are also available the day before BIG26 and alongside the main conference programme courtesy of sponsors Qualisys and Delsys.
