Understanding the technical landscape in Sport, Health and Exercise Sciences

23rd February 2026

In collaboration with the Irish Sport and Exercise Association and Brunel University of London, we are inviting participation in a study exploring the technical landscape within Sport, Health and Exercise Sciences (SHES)

This research seeks to better understand the experiences, responsibilities, and perspectives of individuals working in technical roles that support teaching, research, and facilities in SHES.

Inclusion criteria for participation:

  • Individuals who identify as working in a technical role within SHES. This includes those supporting teaching, research, and/or facilities in a technical capacity, regardless of job title (e.g., laboratory technician, teaching technician, research technician, technical specialist, technical instructor, or equivalent).
  • Participants must be over the age of 18.

This project has been approved by the College of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences Research Ethics Committee and the study runs until to 24/05/2026.

Please note that the survey is anonymous, and no identifying information will be collected.

If you meet the criteria, we would be delighted if you would consider taking part. Alternatively, if you know a technician who fits the criteria, we would be grateful if you could pass this invitation on to them.

Your contribution will be invaluable in helping us build a clearer picture of the technical workforce in SHES.
